Al conducted collaborative research for St. Joseph's/Candler Health System which resulted in the establishment of a national model --the African-American Health Information & Resource Center (AAHIRC).

Institute on Minority Health Established at SSU

Al (as principal investigator) secured grant funding to establish the first Institute on Minority Health at Savannah State University (SSU). The IMH examined best health promotion practices in the elimination of health disparities among minorities. Project Date: 1999

"Operation Beating Heart"

Al initiated a partnership between Yale School of Medicine, St. Joseph's/Candler Health System and SSU. Dr. James Rosser researched cost-effective mass pre-participation screening of athletes to detect heart defects and  save lives. Project Date: 2001
